Transportation
If a Member is not able to drive or temporarily unable to drive, volunteers can provide door-to-door transportation within our Service Area (City of Hilliard and the broader Hilliard City School District) from a member’s home,:
- Banks
- Church services
- Doctor or other professional appointments
- Grocery, pharmacy or other stores
- Hairdresser/barber appointments
- Library
- Meetings
- Post Office
- Senior Center
- Social and educational events
- Visits to friends
Errands and Services
Examples:
- Advocacy
- Dog walking
- Friendly visits to a Member’s home to provide conversation and companionship, to read, play a game or cards, or share a hobby or special interest
- Friendly check-in phone calls
- Note taking at medical appointments
- Reading/Writing Mail
- Run local pick-up and delivery
- Scheduling Appointments or Other Assistance with Calls
- Walking buddy
In Home Assistance
Help with routine home activities can be a lifesaver.
Assistance with “handyman” chores such as:
- Hanging pictures
- Mattress turning
- Moving furniture (No entire-home moves, oversized items, or pianos)
- Moving heavy items
- Putting up/taking down screens
- Replacing hard to reach light bulbs
- Smoke Alarms (changing batteries)
- Use of indoor ladders
Assistance with simple chores or repairs
- Home Organizing/Decluttering
- Light gardening chores
- Light housekeeping
- Sewing or mending projects
- Sweep or shovel sidewalks, driveways in the fall and winter
- Take out and return trash cans on collection day
- Yard work or gardening
- Members must provide/cover costs for all items and materials needed for repairs
Technical and Home Office Support
For example, assistance with:
- Programming and using electronic devices such as DVD players, cell phones, radio clock alarms, programmable thermostats, and TV remotes
- Setting up e-mail
- Using computers, popular software programs, and/or the internet more effectively
